A parent’s main concern for their child is providing them with the best education in top schools. While making this selection, there are multiple factors they must consider. There are multiple educational boards in India with varying learning patterns and syllabus that all have their own unique benefits.
Although, when it comes to making a choice, one must understand what each of these boards has to order.
- CBSE - CBSE is the most common national board in India following the NCERT pattern, adopted by public and private schools alike. The curriculum focus on core subjects like Math, science, social science and languages. The curriculum is also the most followed for entrance exams for math and science fields. It’s also very well suited for STEM careers.
- ICSE – This board instead of only focusing on math and science gives equal importance to other subjects like languages, liberal arts – humanities and extracurricular activities. Thus, allowing a more wholesome and holistic education. Students in ICSE are encouraged to recognize their responsibility towards the community and work on it. Paying heavy weightage to English, studying this board provides a student with strong foundations to appear for their IELTS and TOEFL exams.
- STATE BOARDS – With the multiple state level schools, the Ministry of Education permits each state to create a syllabus that teaches a student bore about their region and state. With focus on local language, history, culture state boars equip students with deep knowledge and understanding of their states. State boards hence become a good starting point for anyone planning to appear for government service examinations.
- IB board – The IB curriculum is focused on developing a child’s critical evaluation and research skills. They focus on creating “inquiring, knowledgeable, confident and caring young people”. Research, internships, are the focal points of the curriculum. This curriculum prepares a child for education outside of India.
- IGCSE – The IGCSE board has a high ration of schools connected to it globally. Schools modify the curriculum based on the regional learning environment. They have a wide range of subjects to select from that best suit a child’s interest. Their curriculum too is more focused on research based learning providing them with knowledge about global cultures, social sciences and languages.
- NIOS – The National Institute of Open Schooling from grade 3 to 8, also referred to as OBE Open Basic Education focusing on core subjects like math, earth sciences and computers. In grade 10 offers its students to opt for three basic subjects and one language. In garde 12, they offer more specialized subjects in humanities, commerce and sciences.
